I pulled my Pixel 2 out of the pile of old phones I have to see how it stacks up to my Pixel 4. Currently on the 4th security update install of the evening.
Somehow I fell into the habit of popping in a pod and making my morning coffee with the Keurig instead of grinding beans and making a pour over, Aeropress or french press.
I need to change that habit and go back to making good coffee instead of tolerable coffee.
I collect books, both digital and analog, that I want to read, but never get around to reading.
And I can not stop doing it.

Whelp. The Pixelbook won’t start up now. It shows that it is fully charged - the green light is on when the usb-c is plugged in. But, the screen does not respond when opened and the keyboard doesn’t light up like it should.
I don’t have time to troubleshoot tonight though.
LIstened to the new Phoebe Bridges album Punisher and it is mellow and heartfelt. Definitely something I will listen to again. 🎵

Don’t forget about the Microsoft Surface Duo in all the Apple hoopla.
Now that iOS has widgets on the home screen I have one question about Springboard.
Why does iOS require an app to have an icon on the home screen in the first place?
You can search for any app through search. What is the operational need to have an icon on the home screen?
Not bad, California. Not bad at all.

Calls for defunding the police (which is often the majority of a city budget) are to give that money to the public schools and fire department and social services.

Podcast skies are falling because Joe Rogan ¯_(ツ)_/¯
The siren call of a dying open podcast culture is the same siren call of the dying blog. Open podcasts are not dying because Joe Rogan signed a contract with Spotify. Open podcasts are not dying just like open websites are not dying.
Will some players like Spotify entice popular podcasts to be exclusive to their platform?
Yes. No question.
Does that mean that indie and small publishers will lose users?
Yes. No question.
Much like text editors, there will be alternatives to Word, Pages, Notepad, and other built in system applications.
Remember the tale of the boy who cried wolf.
If the indie web keeps saying X will be the death of the open Y, when it finally does happen no one will have listened.
iA Writer
I’m playing around with iA Writer and it’s a nice looking application on first launch.
I’m wondering what use case I might have for it.
I’m not sure that there is anything that I do that I would need to pay $20 for a text editor. But, holy moly is it a nice writing experience.
Blank space all over.
I haven’t explored the options yet.
I’m just trying out the first launch experience.
So far so good.
14 more days on the trial to see what I can or want to do with this little thing.
My 2 cents on the ‘Obamagate’ Susan Rice email
Too many people have seen too many buddy cop movies where “by the book” is a superiors way of telling cops to get their act together and the cops ignoring their superior and still being reckless to get their perp.
Holy Moly does Expanding Universe: The Hubble Space Telescope look good. This is an instant pre-order. It’s out in July.
